Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland, is one of the most populous cities in Australia. Along with its economic progress, however, is the growth of the environmental problems it faces.
The city enjoys a humid subtropical climate, with hot but wet summers, and dry but warm winters. Because of this, it attracts more and more people to live within the area. However, urban growth, combined with climate change, has made Brisbane susceptible to many erosion problems.
If the city’s environmental protection plans cannot keep up with its population and economic growth, its ecological issues may continue to grow and cause harmful events to the locals.

There is also a Flood Planning Scheme Policy which contains detailed information on calculating for flood planning levels in creeks, waterways, and overland flow.
The city also identified species that might mitigate flooding in waterway channels and floodplain rehabilitation projects.
Some criteria included in the assessment are the plant’s: (a) ability to withstand and recover from the effects of floodwaters, bed load, and gravel; (b) form of the root system; (c) rate of growth and propagation; and (d) appropriateness to location and problems within Brisbane.
Although these initiatives reduced the flood risk of the city, committed solutions are still necessary for long-term flood mitigation.
